Been awhile… what’s new?

It’s been awhile since my last post. Been busy juggling W and baby G.

In August we had several appointments regarding G for allergies. Last week we had an appointment with an SLP regarding G he’s almost 21 months and still isn’t really talking. Because W is diagnosed autistic they want to put G in an intense communication program because he’s at risk for being autistic as well. It’s kind of like IBI but for communication. The SLP was supposed to email me the information but i haven’t received it.

He also started daycare today. Hopefully it will help with his social and communication skills.

I’d be lying if I said I don’t worry that he too will be autistic but so far aside from a speech delay he shows no signs of being on the spectrum.

W started kindergarten 2 weeks ago (here kindergarten is a 2 year program) and is doing well. He loves the school bus. I got a call from his teacher on Friday. She wanted to discuss his behavior, specifically refusing to share and pushing people when he’s upset. I told her how we deal with those situations and the teachers are doing the same thing in class. I also discussed with her how to best deal with W in other ways. Such as 5 minute warning before switching tasks and counting backwards to help calm him before he gets so upset that he pushes someone. Thankfully the teacher has a nephew on the spectrum so she understands some of the struggles. She also said he’s “brilliant”. I knew that he is academically brilliant but it always makes me overflow with pride when someone else recognizes it.

Next week I have a meeting at the local children’s health center regarding W. His number has finally come up for various programs.

Otherwise everyone is doing well. Just busy and stressed out but that’s the life of the special needs family.

I've been through a lot in my life and I've realized that sharing my story helps me to deal with things. ~ so I have started this partially to help myself deal with the various emotions as they arise but also to help others who may be going through the same thing. This is our story of living with autism. this story actually started before W was diagnosed.
