More than a tantrum…

If you don’t know the difference between a meltdown and a tantrum it can be easy to confuse the two. Especially in younger children who can have some epic tantrums.

Today we had to cut W’s hair we have tried every possible way to make it a gentle experience but with no luck. So i had to hold him while my husband used the clippers. And although this is the most traumatic way to do it, it is also the fastest.

I got bit more than once. And W bit himself hard enough to leave a mark.

Children generally do not self harm during a tantrum but during a meltdown self harming is a way of trying to cope with a situation that is causing extreme distress/pain.

I've been through a lot in my life and I've realized that sharing my story helps me to deal with things. ~ so I have started this partially to help myself deal with the various emotions as they arise but also to help others who may be going through the same thing. This is our story of living with autism. this story actually started before W was diagnosed.
